Mission Strategy

At a time where many are lamenting the fact that many churches in the United States seem to be both aging in demographics and dwindling in size, we believe instead that this is a strategic moment for the Kingdom.

Matthew 9:37
“The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few.  Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.”

The Kingdom Builders Challenge

We are calling upon Christians who are now retired or about to retire to come and serve as self-supporting missionaries at Sunlight Community Church in Port St. Lucie, Florida.

Unlimited Partnerships

Too often, when it comes to asking people to serve in ministry, churches approach people on the model of a limited partnership.  The church needs a Sunday School Superintendent or a Greeter or a Parking Lot Attendant.  So, they approach people and ask, “Will you be our Sunday School Superintendent?”  Never mind that this particular individual may not enjoy his/her role or be gifted or passionate about this type of ministry.  The following quote may sum up the frustration that this type of relationship between church and ministry leader will result in:

“I would love to be able to use my leadership skills in a leveraged way in my   church, or through my church in my community, but most often at church I feel like a limited partner—I put in the money, take very little risk and never get a chance to really lead.”

Instead of following this model, we desire to pursue (in an open-ended way) the model of Unlimited Partnerships.  We have no preconceived ideas about what ministry you ought to be engaged in.  We are convinced, though, that God has given to you unique passions, abilities, desires, and experience that can be put to good use for the kingdom.  We wish to help you explore where God wants you to serve.

In general there are three possible areas where you may end up serving:

  1. The Church
  2. Our Community
  3. Around the World

We want to help assist you find the ministry that uniquely fits the gifts, talents, and passions that God has given to you.

We challenge you to move to Florida in your retirement years and to make Port Saint Lucie your mission field. Serve as a self-supporting missionary in an area that is based on your background, experiences, spiritual gifts, and passions. Partner with Sunlight Community Church and its ministries and use your resources of time, talent and treasure to make a significant impact in the kingdom.

What you do will depend on your unique gifts and calling. Whether it's counseling or construction, academics or athletics, mentoring or medicine, please prayerfully consider how God can use you to make disciples in South Florida.

What you do will depend on your unique gifts and calling. In our rapidly growing congregation, the majority are new Christians and there is a critical need for discipling and nurturing them in their spiritual growth. You may already feel called to a particular ministry. There are also oportunities among our many established ministries.
